Tell Congress to Extend the Enhanced Premium Tax Credits

Thousands of Hispanic business owners, along with their employees, are about to pay much more for health insurance. You can help stop it.

Keep Health Insurance Affordable

4.2 million small business owners and self-employed individuals across the United States get their health insurance through the Marketplace.

Those insurance plans are more affordable due to the Enhanced Premium Tax Credits (EPTCs), which lower premiums by hundreds or thousands of dollars per year. Those tax credits have been a key driver of recent coverage gains, especially among the growing Hispanic business community.

By making Marketplace plans more affordable, the Enhanced Premium Tax Credits have helped reduce uninsured rates and individual healthcare costs.

But…

The Enhanced Premium Tax Credits are set to expire in 2025. When that happens, individuals enrolled in Marketplace plans will see their premiums skyrocket, forcing them to choose between cutting back on daily expenses or going uninsured.

4.8 million

Hispanic Americans enrolled in Marketplace coverage in 2024.

29% of total enrollment and a 185% increase since 2020

– driven largely by Enhanced Premium Tax Credits

... But about 970,000 will lose health coverage

if Congress lets these tax credits expire in 2025.

Why it Matters

For many Hispanic small business owners and workers across Florida, individual Marketplace plans are the only option for health coverage – and the Enhanced Premium Tax Credits make it affordable.

If the Enhanced Premium Tax Credits expire…

Lost Coverage

Hispanic workers could experience some of the worst coverage losses, with about half of Hispanic employees at small firms losing insurance altogether.

Higher Premiums

If the tax credit expires, a typical family of four making $125,000 would see their health care premiums increase by $7,700. For a 60-year-old couple with an income of $80,000, premiums would skyrocket by $17,500. We must stop this premium spike.

Weaker Economy

Overall employment would decline by a total of 286,000 jobs nationwide in 2026.

The reductions in income and economic activity will lead to losses of $2.1 billion in state and local tax revenues in 2026, as well as $5.4 billion in reduced federal tax revenues.

Total state gross domestic products (GDPs) would fall by $34.1 billion and total economic output would fall by $57.0 billion.

What’s at Stake?

Nearly 4 million Americans, including at least 1 million Hispanic individuals, could become uninsured.

Nearly half of Hispanic Marketplace enrollees say they would drop coverage if premiums skyrocket.
